Another Cat is Famous

This is Guinevere and she is about 7 months old now but we had to put her in with Tabasco, she got more comments but most of them are about beer recipices and other odd things. Well it is the day before April Fools eve and me and a co-worker decided to play with our fellow staff. Enjoy the pictures. Batman is Back!

My Minni vacation is over and I'm back at work. It wasn't as productive as I would have liked I was suffering from a major headache most of the time but I still got ahead of schedule with a lot of things. I have just under a month and a half of school this semester and I'm very happy about that. I will be busy with assignments all the time now. That will be the biggest pain finding time to do the regular work as well as the final projects and assignments.

It was fun staying home I felt one with nature my cats were following me around everywhere I went and at a few points more than I would like. The only thing I really hated about being home alone was cleaning the litter pans. Vedder our oldest cat has got issues he smells like a decaying cow gut every time he craps and I'm not ashamed to say I threw up in my mouth more than once during the daily cleanings. I had to plug my nose with Vick's Vapor-rub and I still had issues. I can't wait for babies.

I saw three movies over my break. The Shooter which I liked. TMNT which was very cool, I liked it more than the live action movies of my youth(even than I knew Vanilla Ice was a bad move). The last was Reign Over Me which was also a good flick to see. I pretty much ate out the whole time. I was too lazy to cook my own food except for Sunday I bought some frozen food and cooked that.

For the Fun of It

I don't have anything to say at this particular moment, but I wanted to see what would happen. It is a beautiful stormy afternoon and I'm enjoying the weather. Its the type of weather I love to walk in. Nature or city setting, There is just something relaxing about a cloudy day.

Had our quarterly staff meeting today and I was given the job of an improve announcer for a future event, all went well even thought I find it unpleasant. There is a future 5k run for Jon (he was mentioned in a poem called Candy from Mexico). It should be a lot of fun we are making special shirts for the fellow staffers that will be running, thanks to be big idea I had(I'm learning that I should keep my mouth shut sometimes, otherwise I give myself new jobs) so I'm in the process of trying to confirm the amount of t-shirts to make as well as find a place to make them within budget. It's for a good guys and it helps me to break free from my shell, so all is well.

I'm working a double today due to one of my bosses getting sick, but this is great news because I don't have to come to work tomorrow. That means my mini spring break begins a day sooner! I will spend the time doing homework and getting ahead on some assignments which will help to relieve stress at the end of the semester.

Well I must say this was a good blog for not having anything to talk about.

Melting Tin Roof

March as arrived and once again the year is flowing by faster then anyone could possibly handle. I am enjoying this years time passage it's the last year I'll ever be in school for the next five years and then I'll re-evaluate my life and decide if I'd like another degree it will either be a bachelor's in English or a Master's in History or a Master's in Public Administration. Right now none of them sound fun. This is the point of the semester were all the assignments that looked so far off in the distant begin to approach from now till the end I believe I'll have a major assignment once a week. Spring break is coming up and I plan on spending a few days off work so I can have a proper holiday from everything, even my wife will be gone for the weekend and I plan to veg and get ahead on some of my assignments to relieve the stress and pressure at the end of the semester. Work is well and good the witch is dead and things are in place for once but that shall change. I've got some temporary Librarian Tattoos and their helping me make things fun. I saw the Zodiac last weekend, I have to say it was a good movie with the serial killer and I liked it. The main message was that the real victims of the killer where the people that spent their life trying to catch the guy. I also saw Pan's Labyrinth, it was also very good but very dismal. It got a little violent with the bad guy bashing in the face of a peasant with the bottom of a wine bottle.

The Death of the Blog

It seems that all of my friends have forgotten their blogger accounts for the more hip Myspace. Is there no truth left in the world no more free lemonade to give up. I admit I have an account with the dreary Myspace, but I have not fallen victim to self published vanity and sodomizing of cattle toys. No I am still here I still stand with the few and if this will be my battle my subtle war then I take it. I am a good solider and understand that freedom is a cost too high if all we shall receive is free friendship with Tom damn the devil and his angels of darkness they but deceive those that have a faint heart and weak spirit. Do not think that stones and words do the same damage. I am he the shallow one. I am he that will be but alone soldier at the gate Thermophiles has no copyright and I am not your peg to plant in the wheel of conversation and dead eyed fish food. I am the one and true soul that has given in and taken the books for records. I shall not burn because I do always keep the sun to my back. The Thunder Burn

I have a strong desire to disappear. A place no one will recognize me and not a soul will think twice about me. I think this base desire has something to do with pressure valves. I also think it has something to do with the wanderer in each of us. That root of the Neanderthal that hasn't gone completely away yet. It's almost like being an explorer when you go somewhere no one knows you. The people and places take on a stranger curiosity. An almost alien terrain. I didn't know that box would be there by that door I'd say, as if that one sentence would unlock a kingdom or knowledge. The realization that the box is indeed there would allow me to begin to understand the native’s language and customs. The process of simulation and consumption would begin until once again I would crave the desire to be unknown, unfamiliar. Taking the safety of time and place away leaving me to be just be...
I think that's why I like to move so much I like to find new drawers and crawl spaces. I like to be able to wake and be surprised that the trash was picked up on a Tuesday instead of the predictable Thursday schedule.
I also think that is why I don't stay at jobs for very long. I like to be on the edge of not knowing what might happen if I open that door in the back room no one will talk about or the button everyone is afraid to push, because it just might be a panic button that unleashes the Kraken. The last job I had before coming to the Library was two years that had been the longest time I had spent anywhere. In eleven years I had never spent more then 2 years in one place. That was a lot of wandering. and now the last four years I've had two jobs, and I will remain here at least until I've been here five years so my pension and 401k will go with me to my new eve...
Can I claim the rank of wanderer if I wait for such things or do I need to say the hell with it I'm out of here and I may never come back or I might see you on Monday you and I do not know.
What will calm me while I wait? Moving into a different house a new apartment and new car, or do I need to find time for a new hobby, or an old hobby forgotten. They number close to the millions, must like the bones of the dead elephants that litter Africa.

The Red Haze in Your Eyes

I don't have a lot of time today to write but I want to get back in the habit. I spent the majority of my lunch time taking part in an online chat/video with my children's lit class. all i can say about my classes so far is a lot of reading and group projects. I hate group projects what use are they except giving the teacher less things to grade?

A New Look Continues

Well not much time to write but I must get back in the habit. I've been playing with the lay out of my blog in hopes to make it feel more like mine. I have a few more ideas but they will have to wait until later.

I am now a proud owner of three cats and two rats. Wow where did time go? I have a strong hope that the two extra cats will be enough fodder for Tabasco our hell kitten. I'm tired of looking like a near sighted suicide.

Only five more days until school starts back up. I am luckily always ready for school to start the organized chaos and stress really makes time fly and the quicker the better then I can begin my personal education. The older I get the more things I find I want to learn about. I have also began to realize there is no better teacher then I.

Water Heaters and Kittens

Over the weekend our water heater started leaking a lot of water we attempted to find a guy that worked over the weekend to come and fix it for us, but due to the low temp there was a large volume of pipes that froze and then burst over the weekend so the soonest we could get someone was on Monday. Well after talking to my Dad while visiting with my grandmother I found out that he had replaced two in the past so he said he'd show me how. I always take the opportunity to be more manly so after only two hours of grunting and groaning and a lot of new smells and liquids We installed a new one in the old house. It was half the price of getting some dude to come in and do it and now I know how to do it. I feel that much closer to being a man.

The other news is that Tabasco is about to get a new brother and sister. Both gray tabbies. One is coming from the pound and the other from a development rescue. I just hope all three enjoy each other and have a long happy life together.

This is my last week of freedom before school starts again.

Paper Whistle

An Update. I've finished the regular school year and now I've entered the finals stage. I have two that I start on tomorrow and then the last one I don't start working on until the 17th. Then I get to have a couple of weeks off. I have also figured out my schedule for next year but until I get my grades back I won't know if I need to retake a class or not.

My vacation at work is about to come to an end. Someone is coming back that ruffles my tail feathers and so that will give me plenty to write about I'm sure.

Tabasco (my kitten) has been a lot of fun to have he cuddles a lot more then my hermit crabs did or even more then my rats which I still have. They are both curious about the other but thankfully haven't had any major issues. I've cleaned the cage twice now since getting the cat and as they roam the house freely Tabasco is extremely curious about them and smells them and even attempts to swat at them but I can tell he is far more scared of them then they are of him.



This is The Decemberists, a new band that I have to say I really enjoy listening to. They remind me of a mixture of Shout Out Louds/Kate Rusby/and Nick Drake. They have a young energy to them which surprised me that they have so many recordings. I've got the The Wife Crane
Just a really good band if you haven't listened to them. But be warned they are very catchy and you might be singing them out loud while you do your thing.

The Snow Came Like a Scorpion in a Boot

To get one and all caught up in my daily root gathering I must first say the life is on the up and up. I bought a new car a Meteorite metallic Yaris. It’s a cool little bubble of a car, with great gas mileage. We got a loan directly through the Toyota dealership; thankfully we got a little KY in the interest rate.
I can’t remember if I’ve also mentioned that we got a small kitten from my aunt, we named him Tabasco, due to his fiery personality. Yes I have asthma and allergies and often awake with watery eyes and tight lungs, but when I walk down the hall half asleep and my ankle takes a surprise attack from behind with needle like teeth I smile and scream.
I got word that I got an A on the last assignment from my Hades Class, which makes my average at this point an 87.5 so now all I have to do is the final at an appropriate level to pass the class.
Last note to mention is the snow as finally come to the gathering stage, and performed a might play…

The Who

They came to the Delta Center on the !3th of November. They made me turn into a little prepubescent girl screaming my head off. It's an experience that measures on indescribable. The set list was amazing and if you'd like to see what they played check out the link to 'None More Black' to the left of the screen the lucky Hoss got a real live set list from the stage. The majority of their set was hits with a little break in the middle for their mini opera which can be found on their newest album. I really liked it myself. The moment of climax for me was Baba O' Riley that being my most favorite flavors of the Who. It's hard to describe the motion of Pete and Roger while they perform. Two giants among musicians. I was lucky enough to be in the cheapest of seats at the very top far corner of the stage on Pete's side. I say lucky because I was able to see the action from a top down perspective and it was amazing to be able to focus on the men as they played. At any other seat I don't think I would have been able to focus on both they have too much presence. The last thing I'll mention about the show is the movies/visual art they played behind them was amazing and breathe taking. If you still have a single cell in your body breathing you must see them live!

Vegoose Festival in Las Vegas October 28, 2006

This was a spur of the moment kind of trip we decided to go on the 26th and so we could only go for one day, we picked the first day of the festival it had the best bands playing that day. This was the first music festival I've been to outside of the locale music festivals. It was a surreal experience, because it was held the weekend before Halloween 57% of the crowd was in Halloween costumes. Some really cool ones and a lot of girls turning normal costumes into slutty costumes.
The music was great they had four stages and for the majority of the day we stayed at the 'Snake Eyes' stage and we also visited the 'Jokers Wild' stage and the end of the night was devoted to the main stage.
We got there very early due to the time difference that we forgot about so we saw a few of the smaller bands both were good but I don't remember what their names are. A lot of high hippies doing there thing in the crowd. The first Band I was excited to see was Cat Power. I've also heard a lot about her live they say you have a 50/50 chance of a good show or a crappy show. From what I understand Chan gets stage fright luckily she was in a great mood and was an amazing show.

She did a lot of dancing and a lot of hand sighs and movement that matched her lyrics which made it very unique. She played with the Memphis Rhythm Band. They backed her last album.

The next band at the show that I saw was the Raconteurs. This is the first time for me with this band and a funny side note. My wife and I stayed at this stage after we saw Cat Power while everyone else went to see the other band perform at the stage next to us while the roadies unloaded the stage and got it ready for the next band. We did this so we could be at the front for both Cat Power and The Raconteurs. Right before the guys came out to play a college girl came up to use from across the fence she had a press pass and she was making a documentary about fans that have to see a band on the front row. Interesting concept. She asked if she could interview myself and a guy to our left, we both agreed and she asked us a few questions off camera and then filmed our answers. It was hard to come up with answers that didn't make you sound like white trash after a tornado. I'm just glad I didn't have to answer the who's in the band question because all I knew was Jack White, So the other guy looked like the idiot. Long story short if anyone ever sees the film let me know if I acted like a shmuck.
The band was great they had a great sound together and they really complimented each other's style. It didn't feel like it was Jack's band it was a real four piece band that held equal rights over the music. I'd recommend anyone to see their shows they were great live.

The rest of the day was devoted to eating and resting in the shade it was a hot clear day. After the sun went down we saw the Killers and Tom Petty and the heartbreakers, both of them were amazing. I didn't write the setlists down due to no light. I wore my sunglasses and left my regular glasses in the car so once the sun went down I was blind unless I was looking directly at the stage. They played their hits and nothing that stood out at enough to make an imprint. Tom was great my first time to see him live and all I wanted to hear was I Won't Back Down and he played it! Truly a legend. All in all I'd say it was a very cool festival that I hope to visit again next year if there's a good line up.

Fiona Apple at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City

I was a little nervous to see Fiona Apple play live, on her own. I have heard a lot of bad rumors of her stage personality. I first saw her live when she opened for Coldplay in Tampa, FL and she was amazing. Things started off pretty intense she was screaming and convulsing during songs and did a lot of wandering around on stage for the first half of the show. We kept expecting her to walk off any minute but thankfully she didn't and she seemed to calm down as the night went on. She even talked and joked with the audience. The night was amazing with high energy; it was also great fun to watch her dance to the faster songs. I would highly recommend seeing her if you can.

MRI/Graduate Studies

My MRI came back normal which is a good and bad thing. I'm not dying but I don't know why I get headaches. Frustration seems to be the Olympus, of my life right now. My health is queerer then a 3 holed binocular and my graduate teacher is failing me because I can't make sense of her babbling. My car died on the way home this weekend and it looks like the bank won't give me a loan because I have too many student loans!!!!!! It is times like this that make me want to take a quick shot to the head from any firearm and then learn to play my harp.

Where is My Mind?

where is my mind... sit on your head and spin it right watch as the little fish keep swim n swim n the moment I give in I give up and I keep asking the water to lower and the man at the facet keeps turning it higher and higher. have I done something to deserve your hatred painted red like Santa’s hat but not the one you'd find on a bobcat, no no no not that one my love you have said it and I have replied and now again and a again I am one and only the statement hurts as it burns down the stub of my throat causeing a train wreck of emotions to teeter off the bridge in my chest hairs, damn I’m hot is it because I’m fat and hairy or the hell the personal hell rising up inside me I don't believe in that anymore I’m good that is to say I haven't slipped today. I will buy whatever you are selling if only you'd stay stay don't go but then again I need this alone time this feeling of abandonment it's an issue to bring up to my care-bear heart support group clinic trial that doesn't at this time support my network system but I’m not a system I am a man that sits alone in the dark wishing for time to play with my toys and read my comic books damn the pain in my head and that reoccurring neck spasm. if it weren't for that constant ringing in my head I’d fall asleep right now but the frequency keeps changing and I can't turn it into white noise the kind of noise the dead use to talk back at us and let us know the coupon I’ve been holding on to get into heaven has expired or required at time of purchase instead of my pocket the one little tinny pocket above the right pocket the one that can only hold a quarter and that isn't much not enough for a phone call or rain coat damn the man as one and forever.

David Sedaris at the Capital

Tuesday the 24 of October at the Capital Theater I enjoyed my first encounter with David Sedaris. We arrived around 7:30 pm and David was at the end of a table full of books and Audio books. I bought a copy of Me Talk Pretty one Day and stood in line to have it signed. Once it was my turn David asked me, “If you were to going to sign a book what would you put in it?" Little did he know I had already thought about it and was prepared to answer, "A Haiku." That stumped him, he thought a little and began to write on the book next to the word DAY he added a TONA next to it so that it could be read as Me Talk Pretty one Daytona. He then said well I can't write poetry so he wrote the word Hi KU and then said he'd be reading a poem tonight. I then went in to sit at row Z chairs 111, and 113. He began at 8 pm and read a poem that will be featured on NPR this Saturday. It was a funny story about morgues. He then read a story about baby sitting. Then he read a story about gayness and drug use. All great stories I laughed a lot and enjoyed myself. David then began to read entries from a journal that were very small and funny, I looked at it like trying out new material. He then began to promote the Philippines, and an Indian Politian. He then read an excerpt from Is There No Place For Me Here? by Susan Sheehan. It's about a schizophrenic. He also mentioned that if anyone could read protégées they could have a personal copy of a protégées copy of one of his books. He then sold us on Tokyo. It's his favorite new place to visit and is thinking about moving there for a few months. He then took a few questions to end the evening. He bowed as he left the stage and the night was over. I have a great deal of appreciation for the man and enjoyed myself terribly.

Romance AD

When patrons come into the library needing to use the computer they have to come to the front desk and give us their name and we sign them up. A little game I enjoy playing involves me as the matchmaker. I'll put boys and girls next to each other in hopes that they might find true love. I don't know if anything has come of my meddling but one can always hope...

Beard Season

It's beard season and I'm growing it out baby! I've been into beards for about 5-6 years now and I'm happy to say they look better each year. I started to do it as my revolt against shaving I hate it! I have very sensitive skin so I can't use a razor. If I do I look like a 16 year old working at Burger King. That means I have to shave with an electric razor and frankly they all suck I've tried em. What I found to work is a beard trimmer, that way I can get close to the skin but never baby face smooth. I don't have to shave every day thankfully only about 3 times a week if I were diligent which I'm not.

By the time October hits I've gotten sick of shaving and throw in the towel. So Here comes the beard.

Headaches and MRI's

It's been a bit so forgive one and all. I went to my doctor's office last Thursday about my nasty headaches. I've had headaches since puberty and they've been getting worse the older I get. I've been on a lot of different medicines to try and fix things, but haven't had a lot of success. I went in to see if we could try something new with my medication or such and he wants me to get an MRI done to see if I have a rare defect were the Cerebral part of my brain is too big and is being forced down into my spinal cord. He also wants me to go cold turkey off of all pain medicines, because if you take too many too often your body gets addicted to the stuff and gives you headaches. He said it could be a rough couple of days and it was I was in a daze for about 3-4 days. He also said it would take a couple of weeks before I started feeling better. I've been trying a bunch of hippie medicine and herbal stuff as well as meditation. It helps for the smaller headaches but hasn't done anything for the big ones. I don't get my MRI until November. I'll let you know how it turns out. I almost hope that's what I have just so I don't have to keep wondering what's wrong with my head.

School is going next week is midterms so time is flying. Still disappointed with the classes this semester. Next semester I have one required class left and then I can start taking more specialized classes. If anyone’s got a recommendation let me know.

One last thing I’m a fat ass.
I got on the scales and I weigh 211.8 which is 9lbs heavier then I have ever been in my life. I’m on my oatmeal diet breakfast and lunch I eat a bowl of oatmeal. My goal is to loose 40lbs and be at 171.8 by June 2007. So I’ll let you know how I do.

Jim Gaffigan Sat Sep 30 SLC, UT

Alright this was my first live comedian show thing a ma jig. It was great! I laughed and laughed. So much so that I think I pissed off the guy next to me who seemed to shave his legs seriously they were smooth. The opening comedian was very funny a guy from the south and made some great jokes.
Jim came on screaming EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for like five minutes and it was funny. I laughed I cried I nearly passed out from laughing it was defiantly better than CATS. I didn't make a setlist of his jokes but I did buy one of his CD's. I'm defiantly going to more live comedy shows.

The Strokes Friday Sep 29 2006 In the Venue SLC,UT

The Strokes are getting better each time I see them. This is number three for me, once every album. The first time the band was visibly nervous and barely moved around on the stage. The second time there was a little more moving around and talking between band and audience. But this last time was a huge difference, the band was about on the stage shaking their money makers and Julian Casablancas was dancing and talking and even joking with the pit. It was great. The music was crisp and jumping. I haven't seen a mosh pit move like it should in a long time. They paced themselves well and showed their appreciation to the crowd by playing a request. It was a night to remember and made me feel young again. Here's the setlist enjoy.

I'm very excited to say that Damien Rice has announced his new single 9Crimes is coming out in November, and the album is coming out later this year. I've been waiting a long time for his second album to come out and after listening to the new single. (click on the blog title to follow the link to hear it yourself) I got chills Lisa has such a great voice I can't wait. So look for and buy the new album '9' when it comes out.
